Jayson Paul is the founder of Sovereign Technologies, a Melbourne-based consultancy that builds local AI systems for small businesses whose data can’t leave the building. He is a senior deployment engineer who designs and builds automation and AI-driven systems for organisations in finance, healthcare, and insurance — work spanning natural language processing, machine learning, and the modelling of complex business logic.
His path to AI engineering runs through a decade of teaching and advisory work. He has led tutorials in cloud computing, object-oriented programming, and web development at Swinburne University of Technology; advised families in Beijing on international university admissions; and served on the admissions committee at Amherst College. That background gives him an unusual edge: he can build the system and make sure a business owner’s team actually understands it, uses it, and gets value from it.
His engineering foundations were laid early — teaching undergraduate physics and building laboratory instrumentation at Amherst’s laser-cooling lab, where he programmed control systems and designed circuit boards for experiments studying Bose-Einstein condensates. He holds a Master of Information Technology (Software Development) from Swinburne University of Technology and a Bachelor of Philosophy and Physics from Amherst College, Massachusetts.
